My work for the past 25 years has had one thing in common…Layers. Being formally educated as an illustrator I feel there needs to be a story in my work regardless of how abstract my work can be. In my varied and diverse applications in medium, whether it is printmaking, acrylic painting on Mylar or encaustic painting, my work usually has no less than 6 layers of building and sometimes removing to achieve the story I want to say with the individual piece. Current projects of mine range from etchings, acrylic paintings on Mylar to encaustic paintings on wood panel. I work on site as well as in my studio at Treedogpress Studio in Woody Creek, Colorado.  To make my layers more intersting, I like to add found objects to my work, along with adding drawings I've done on rice paper. I then bind them to my paintings, along with an assortment of mixed media – like pieces of copper, different strings & threads, beads, etc. My subject matter varies from backcountry landscapes to urban road series, American flags and other flags, to the feminine influence with gardens and energy, to an inner journey to your soul and the struggles we go through to get there. My paintings usually start with an idea, but I try not to hold myself to it, and like a rock sculpture artist, I try and let it come to the surface on its own - sometimes the end product is a total surprise.
