Giclee's
The word "Giclee" originates from a word meaning "to spray" in French. Giclee is basically a fancy word that describes a very high museum quality inkjet print, usually of greater dynamic color range than serigraphy. Giclee prints are so high quality that they are often used in art galleries; the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Museum of Modern Art, both showcase giclees. They also frequently go for a lot of money at auctions from well known artists. Giclee’s are considered collectors pieces. They are limited editions, once the edition is sold there are no more prints available for sale. A high end Giclee is fade resistant and archival. Quality inks and paper used to complete a Giclee can be quite expensive, which means that a large Giclee can actually cost more to create than a standard lithograph. The quality of the Giclee print rivals traditional silver-halide and gelatin printing processes, which is why they are commonly found in museums.
